I have a 50% and 200% research boosters. But when I use them nothing happens. My research clock didn’t change at all? Is there a certain way these posters have to be used to actually work? Will they work after you have started researching something?

Research, construction, troop production boosters have to be activated prior to starting. Same thing for your commander skills and gear they must be set prior to starting. To test it, click on the research to see the actual time then change skills, gear and apply boost then click on the research and you will see the time will be less.
