Lately, we have been working on updates that would help bring World at War into a new era. While more features will be introduced, none will have quite as much impact on your gameplay such as the new Multiple Commanders system, which will enable a wider choice of strategies for your Base.

Before, only the one march led by your Commander could perform offensive duties, while your base remained unguarded and vulnerable. We find this to be quite limiting. What if two of your alliance mates need support at the same time? We find that collaborative play on the world map is at the core of World at War. With this update and future ones, we’ll be looking to expand on the strategies available on the world map and the importance of alliance features and the alliance in general.

Starting with the 2020.11.0 update, heroes of WWII will be leading your marches on the world map, be it rallies, attacks, reinforcements, or gathering. Each Commander comes with a unique set of talents that make him more useful for a specific purpose. Skills, equipment, and supplies are preserved and can be used on the new Commanders to further enhance their strong points or complement the weak ones.

Your existing Commander has been migrated to one of the key military leaders of WWII. Depending on your chosen side, Allies or Axis, you received either Georgy Zhukov or Erich von Manstein. He retains the level, equipment, and supplies of your previous Commander. We have rebalanced the number of skill points per Commander level and as a result, the new Commanders have more skill points than before while at levels 1 - 59. More details of each change are listed below.

Allies or Axis?

Depending on your side and advisor of choice, President Franklin D. Roosevelt or General Heinz Guderian, you now have a suite of brand-new Commanders to lead your marches. Want to change allegiance after the update? The “Change Side” option is still available.

There are a total of eighteen new Commanders split between the Allies and the Axis, each of the Allied Commanders having a corresponding Axis one. Should you decide to switch Advisors in the future, your Commander’s progress will be kept, but he or she will be replaced with the correspondent Commander of the opposite side.

Nothing is Lost

We have designed the update so as to only offer benefits and preserve every bit of the progress you’ve worked so hard to acquire, without removing any of it.

Your former Commander?

He is now a Legendary Commander of the highest Rank (complete with all 6 Stars), inspired by a real-life general of the Second World War.

Your Commander’s Experience level?

It’s preserved, as well as all your current Commander Experience Items from the Inventory.

What changes though is that now, Experience gained by actions performed in the base (like Collecting Missions, Upgrading Buildings, Unlocking researches, etc.) will be received as Items in your Inventory, which you can use on your Commander of Choice.

Your Equipment, Supply items, and Researches?

All of them are staying. If you have leveled up your Commander Equipment, you are still able to use it at its current levels and continue to upgrade it in time. The same goes for your Supplies.

Commander’s Menu

We have rearranged the menus to make room for the very important Commanders Menu. From here, you are able to assign Skill Points, equip Commanders and check out your Commanders’ Specialties, Ranks, and Talents, which are some new features which we will explain shortly.

Curious to know more about Georgy Zhukov or Erich von Manstein? Click on the Info Tooltip next to him to find out more about their place in history.

How can you equip your Commanders?

All your Equipment Pieces stay the way they are. You still have the same amounts, the same levels, as well as the same bonuses at your disposal. However, you now get the chance to put more of your Equipment at work.

Given that you are able to send a Commander with each march, you get to take advantage of a lot more Equipment pieces at the same time. One thing to keep in mind is that each Equipment Piece can only be equipped by one commander at a time. Also, equipping and unequipping Commanders can only be done when they are inside the Base.

Did you send Leni Riefenstahl out with a gathering march while wearing the Gas Mask? You’ll have to wait for her to come back in order to equip another Commander with that particular piece of equipment.

How can you assign the Commanders’ Skill Points?

The Skill Points mechanic is still the same. However, in order to give you the option to personalize your Commanders for specific tasks, each of them has their very own Skill Tree. Skill points are given as you level up your Commander. However, you might notice you have way more Skill Points at your disposal than ever before.

In order to help you make the most of your newly unlocked Commanders, leveling up grants you more Skill Points than it used to. The purpose of this rebalance is to give you better bonuses for all of your unlocked commanders, even if they are not fully leveled up.

Commander Presets

Considering you now have access to multiple Commanders, each with their own Skills and Equipment, Presets have changed to be applied per Commander. You can find them in the Commanders Menu, on the right side of the screen.

What’s new? Ranks, Rarities, and Talents

What’s a Commander’s Speciality and Talents?

Each of your new Commanders has a Specialty, meaning that some gather resources at a faster pace, others can better lead your attacks and a few of them have the upper hand when you use them in defense.

Depending on their Specialty, they also have specific Talents, giving you extra boosts (for example, Gathering Commanders have Unit Load as one of the talents). As your Commanders advance in Rank, up to 4 talents can be unlocked for each of them.

What are Rarities?

The Commanders’ Rarity is based on the buffs provided by the commanders. There are 4 rarity classes: Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary.

The higher the Commander’s rarity, the better are his talents. However, he will also require more experience points in order to be leveled up. The Legendary commanders require the same amount of experience as your previous unique commander did, while the other rarities require less.

What is my Commanders’ Military Rank?

Each Commander has a Military Rank, starting from Private (Rank 1) and advancing to the rank of General (Rank 6). In order to promote them to the next Military Rank, a number of Rank Points of the same rarity class are needed. To put it simply, you need Epic Rank Points to promote an Epic Commander.

Universal Talent Parts which are also divided into the same 4 rarity classes can be exchanged for Talent Parts of the same rarity, allowing you to grow your favorite commanders faster. However, they cannot be used to recruit new Commanders.

Wondering how you can get your hands on all these new items such as Rank Points and Talent Parts? Get ready to receive more freebies than ever before as the old Gift for the Commanders will be replaced with a Commander’s Crate.

In your Commander’s Crate menu you will be able to open two different Boxes which offer you all kinds of items. The smaller one gives two different items and requires a Silver Key to be opened; however, you get to open it 5 times a day for free. The bigger Box still gives two different items and requires a Gold Key to be opened, but these items are more special and of greater value; you will get to open it for free every 24 hours. Silver and Gold Keys will also be available for sale.

How to unlock Commanders?

After the update, Commanders will be unlocked for existing players by a very simple rule: you will have one more Commander than your current number of Marches. Thus, you will be able to send away all your marches and still have one Commander defend the Base while the others are all away.

From that point onward, you will be able to unlock more Commanders as you level up your Headquarters level. New Commanders will automatically be unlocked when reaching HQ level 4, 10, 14, 18, 21. Also, when researching the Extra March Slot, an additional Commander is unlocked.

However, should you be lucky enough, you might win 10 of their specific Talent parts beforehand and get to unlock a Commander before reaching the required HQ level.

Who defends your Base? And who gives it economic bonuses?

By going to your Headquarters, you will be able to assign your Base’s Supply Chain Officer and Defense Aid from among your unlocked Commanders.

The Supply Chain Officer will give your Base its economic buffs, regardless if he’s in the Base or away on a march; his economic boosts will still apply.

The Defense Aid is the Commander whose military buffs are applied when your Base is attacked, but only if he is inside at the moment of the attack. If the Defense Aid is not present, the next highest level Commander present in the Base will act as the Defense Aid until his return. Worry not, you will be notified when you’re about to send your Defense Aid away so as not to do it by mistake.

You can also pick one Commander to be both your Supply Chain Officer and your Defense Aid at the same time.

How do you see what buffs are affecting your base?

Same as before, by tapping on the Power indicator, which has been moved to the left-upper part of the screen.

The bonuses granted by the current Supply Chain Officer and Defense Aid are added to the total displayed there. Note that the Commander who acts as Defense Aid is likely to have bonuses that do not actually count for his duty as Defense Aid. Those bonuses are not added up there. These are bonuses affecting march speed, march size, gathering, and generally any bonus that does not apply in the defense of the Base.

Defending the Atomic Facility and the Stalingrad Fortress

Under the old system, while any player in the Alliance was able to attack, conquer and then defend the Atomic Facility, only the Alliance leader was able to send in his Commander in order to defend the landmark, and that only if no other Commander was inside.

Now, all players rallying the Atomic Facility will send a Commander with the rally march. Once the landmark is conquered, the former Rally Leader will act as the Defender of the landmark. If the Defender is recalled together with his march, the next highest-level Commander will take over the Defender role, regardless of his level or the player’s rank in the alliance.

If a new Commander is sent into the Atomic Facility, even if he has a higher level than the Defender, he will NOT replace the Defender unless the Defender is recalled.
